Landing sites in Nida and Juodkrantė

The landing sites in Juodkrantė and Nida were officially opened on September the 8th. The constructed engineering structures are designed for launching and recovering of fishing boats from the Baltic Sea. The boats will be lifted from the sea using an electric cable winch with the lifting/pulling capacity of 10,000 kg. This installation will be managed from the control station – all the equipment required for control of the boat recovery mechanisms and allowing to monitor the situation on the territory will be located in a room protected from environmental exposure. Gabions – wire mesh cages filled with rocks – were used as finishing of the bearing and control station walls and as safeguards against sand drifts. Pathways for fishermen’s and utility services vehicles were arranged. These territories are also equipped with lighting, water supply and drainage networks and water pumps. Seeking to diminish water erosion, the shoreline next to the structures was armoured with ripraps, which prevent scouring in poor weather conditions. Buildings designed for the needs of the fishermen can also serve as observation platforms with a wide panorama opening into the Baltic Sea. The platforms are provided with benches, trash cans, safety railings and lighting.
